Courtney English Defined
Biography

Courtney English is a middle school teacher and community activist born and raised in Atlanta, Georgia.  He is currently a Social Studies teacher for the Best Academy at Benjamin Carson.  He was trained as a Corp Member of Teach for America and is now directing his efforts toward enhancing the quality of education in our nation.  As a teacher, Courtney has innovated special lesson plan that teaches ‘Applied Social Studies” where students learn to discover the social philosophy (application) of any discipline.  His talents as an educator have been reinforced by his success rate in the classroom.  80% of his students meet their learning objectives with at least 80% proficiency – two consecutive years! 

Courtney’s commitment in the classroom is paralleled by his commitment to both his school and the entire education process.  Courtney proudly joins of the ranks of the phenomenal faculty at Best Academy – a trailblazer in effective teaching strategies – who are anchored at the forefront of Atlanta Public School’s Middle School Transformation Plan.    

Courtney is also serves as a member of the school’s Disciplinary Committee where he directly addresses the ethical, psychological and personal needs of students.  He is has also received training from the nation’s leading organization’s for education services such as the National Association of Social Studies Teachers, Leadership for Ensuring Educational Equity and  the National Association for Single Sex Public Educators. In fact, his dedication spills out of the classroom and into other motivational characters: football and chess team coaches and Toastmaster’s advisor.

Courtney’s passion for premier public education was inspired as he attended public school (K – 12th Grades) at Collier Heights Elementary School, Austin T. Walden Middle School, and Fredrick Douglass High School. His passion for education and service evolved when he entered Morehouse College (also in Atlanta, GA).  During his matriculation, he served in a variety of service roles that cultivated within him the leadership skills that will compel the world to excellence. 

While serving at Morehouse he accrued tremendous accolades, offices, and opportunities.  All of which were received as capital for his investment in city, country and world in which he lives…
